Ingredients:

  • 500 grams shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 2 green chili peppers, slit lengthwise (adjust to your preferred level of spiciness)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili sauce
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder (adjust to your preferred level of spiciness)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)
  • Lime wedges, for serving
    Instructions:
  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and
sauté until it becomes translucent and golden brown.
  2. Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and slit green chili peppers to the skillet. Sauté for
another minute until the aromas are released.
  3. Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook until they turn pink and are cooked through.
Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the tomato ketchup, soy sauce, chili sauce, curry powder, turmeric
powder, chili powder, sugar, and salt. Mix well to combine the flavors.
  5. Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and toss them in the sauce, ensuring they are well
coated. Cook for another 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  6. Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary. Add more chili powder or chili sauce for a
    spicier flavor.
  7. Remove from heat and garnish with fresh chopped coriander leaves.
  8. Serve the Sri Lankan Shrimp Deviled hot as an appetizer or main dish, accompanied by rice
or bread. Squeeze fresh lime juice over the shrimp just before serving for an extra zing.
