Nasi Goreng is an Indonesian fried rice dish that is also popular in Sri Lanka. Here’s a unique and detailed Sri Lankan Nasi Goreng recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups cooked basmati rice (preferably day-old)
  • 200 grams of chicken breast, boneless and diced
  • 200 grams of shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 red chili pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves, for garnish
  • Lime wedges for serving
    Instructions:
  1. Heat one tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat.
  2. Add the beaten eggs to the skillet and scramble them until cooked through. Remove the
scrambled eggs from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil and sauté the chopped onion,
minced garlic, and sliced chili pepper until they become fragrant and golden brown.
  4. Add the diced chicken breast and shrimp to the skillet. Stir-fry until the chicken is cooked
through and the shrimp turns pink.
  5. Add the diced carrot, bell pepper, and frozen peas to the skillet. Stir-fry for another 2-3
minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender.
  6. Push the chicken, shrimp, and vegetables to one side of the skillet and add the cooked rice
to the other side. Break up any clumps of rice using a spatula.
  7. Drizzle soy sauce, oyster sauce, and tomato ketchup over the rice. Sprinkle curry powder
and turmeric powder evenly over the rice. Mix everything together until well combined.
  8. Return the scrambled eggs to the skillet and stir them into the rice mixture.
  9. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Continue to stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes to ensure
the flavors are well incorporated and the rice is heated through.
  10. Remove the skillet from the heat and garnish the Nasi Goreng with fresh coriander leaves.
  11. Serve the Sri Lankan Nasi Goreng hot with lime wedges on the side.
Enjoy your unique and flavorful Sri Lankan Nasi Goreng!
